I'm on a quest to actually post on this blog. I'm sucking terribly. I lurk way too much in the whole fashion blogging scope, and I believe it's time to actually do something to become a part of it.
I'm not a model nor am I tall/thin enough to ever be.
I'm not photogenic (at all).
I cannot afford designer anything nor am I inspired by any particular age/style.
So all in all I'm a terrible candidate for this whole fashion blog universe.
But dammit I'm gonna do it! I'm unique, awkward, sometimes much too wordy, a literature teacher living nowhere remotely impressive, with a froo froo dog, a camera, and a ridiculous collection of clothing from every walk of life that needs to be styled and used!
I'm getting bored and need a creative outlet.
World here I come!
By the way, I'm very nice albeit sometimes blunt. Talk to me. Ask me anything. I'm atypical in today's society:
I smile.

the switch!
so if anyone has actually noticed, all the posts before this have the exact same date. That happened because I started a tumblr account, but have realized that most of the blogs I follow are here on blogspot, so here I am now!
I decided to do it early on because it would be easy to update this new blog to the point where I was.
Thanks for reading and I hope I continue to bring you back to this page!

Billie Piper as Fanny Price??
Billie as Belle in Secret Diary of a Call Girl
Piper as Fanny Price
The sensitive, frail, and very unusual Austen heroine, Fanny Price.
Something about men in these old jackets that just strikes my fancy! These are dashing fellows!!
I was rather amused to find out that Billie Piper played the role of Fanny Price in a film portrayal of Jane Austen's novel Mansfield Park. Reason being that I know Piper best in her role as Belle in Secret Diary of a Call girl. I think she's beautiful, but I've seen her as a seductive, confident, beautifully dressed call girl and had some trouble picturing her as the reserved, overemotional Fanny of Mansfield.
I haven't actually seen this film, but chances are I'm going to go on a search soon to find it. I'm curious to see what type of portrayal Piper will give of Fanny. There's something about Austen heroines that has never ceased to captivate me. Each one is so different, so proper, so utterly non-feminist in many ways, and at the same time they're all so confident, romantic, and the epitome of female romantics. Not to mention they have some killer gowns to wear!

christmas 2009 in a nutshell
Probably my favorite of all the pictures we took for Christmas this year. There's just so much going on and the staging also fills it with emotion. It's the representation of the heart of Christmas to me.

unexpected day off
mornings aren't pretty. faaave coffee mug.
doo do wap do wap.
Not that I mind days off. But I do mind getting up early, getting made up and dressed, and finding out I didn't have to. Hmmph.
I show up to work and nobody is there. I call and nobody answers. I guess I don't work today. Why I didn't know that is beyond me.On the bright side, I now get to lounge around in my comfy sweater and drink coffee.
the Tournament of Roses floats
my favorite float. reminds me of peter pan and neverland.
I liked my jellyfish photo.
obssessed with birds.
I'm determined to update this blog often. Yet I'm already falling behind. Saturday I went to view the Tournament of Roses floats. They have them up for a couple days. Wore the red coat I got for Christmas, but the weather did not end up agreeing with me! It was exceptionally hot long before noon.
dancity dance
Dancity dance! My new year's dress is super awesome! I didn't get pictures of the outfit with shoes, but the short lace up boots I wore are like my favorite black boots so they'll definitely show up eventually.
Had a great night at the Flashback party. We danced, we rang in the new year, we danced some more and then ate a giant platter of nachos. What could be better?
it's new year's eve!
Last day of 2009 and I've done absolutely nothing productive. That's ok, gonna get all dolled up and it's almost time to celebrate!
It's Aunt Gina's birthday, so dinner with Pat's fam, then off to dance it up!
Have a great new year everyone!

Oh and apart from laundry I also got my hair cut today, well mostly my bangs trimmed and neatened up. So here's the grand introduction to my face, hello world!

rainy days and laundry
Woke up today and it was raining! Hooray! Rainy days are my favorite type of day, but I HATE going out and driving in it. Alas, I had to because I needed to do some laundry bad! I still go to my mom's to do my laundry. She has one of those new amazing huge washers that lets me finish in half the time, and let's face it, it's free!
So I drove in the rain and did laundry. Pretty uneventful. I'm excited for new year's though, I'm going to a flashback 80's dance party. I bought my new year's dress before I knew I was going there, but it actually kinda fits the theme. It's a slinky little black and denim thing and it has studs. As long as I pouff my hair enough I'll fit right in with the theme! Will upload pictures of it soon!

who?
I'm considering buying one of these pendants. I think it's the cutest thing! I can't decide if I want the silver or the gold one though. Silver is so versatile, but I think the gold one has a lot of character, especially since it's an owl.
newest addition!
Since I'm just starting out with this blog thing, I'm exceptionally overzealous! I'll prob have a million posts in the next couple days and then gradually become a more normal human.
So these are my new boots I just won on ebay! I'm excited I haven't had a decent pair of brown boots probably since I was a child. It's criminal, I know. I have my cowboy boots, but that's just not the same.
I can't wait for them to arrive!
the first of many to come!
Hi world.
After much admiration, inspiration, and lurking around various other blogs belonging to amazingly beautiful, fashionable, and creative ladies, I finally decided to stop the dreaming and begin one of my own.
Straight off however, I'd like to mention that I'm not like many of the other ladies that have created some great fashion blogs. I'm not pretty, tall, thin, or impressive in any way.
I'm not even your average American girl.
I was born in Mexico, completely schooled in the United States, and wishing I was in England the whole time. I'm pretty average height, have a terrible silhouette, hate my smile, and do not photograph well at all. It'll be rare that I smile in photos.
However, I'm quirky and my dark eyes, thick hair, and awkward stance make me that much more unique and beautiful! I've never tried to be the girl that was idolized for her beauty and unattainability. If anything, I want to be the girl that's so depressingly normal other girlies feel great about themselves just looking at me, ha ha!
So here I am. My name is Laura, lover of coffee, books, photographs, indie movies, mellow music, birds, gloomy days, deep thoughts, and life in general.
I hope that I can make this mildly fascinating and that you will come back and read often! I have big plans, but my endeavors sometimes get lost in the chaos of my head.
